Bird Aggression

Birds protecting their young will openly sacrifice themselves . Small birds will take on much larger ones , it was on such an occasion that I witnessed a Coot try to move off a Grey Heron . It came charging at the Heron with all it's might feet first as do when fighting each other . In utter surprise the Heron leapt into the air , in a flurry of feathers . I snapped away as the episode played out in front of me. The image shows the moment the 2 birds are staring at each other , the Coot laying on it's back feet outstretched while the Heron stares down at it .Setup Nikon D7000 ,  .Tamron 70-300 , F5.6 , 1/500 , 300 mm , ISO 100
